Didja miss me?

Man, are things ever accelerating now! I wanted to write down last night what I thought the President should say but, to my happy surprise, he said almost exactly what I wanted him to say – except for ending on the happy comment that ” . . . as I speak the land, sea and air forces of the United States have already begun the liberation of Iraq.” Oh well, I was hoping for the “St. Patrick’s Day War” but I’ll settle for the “Random Wednesday in March War.”

A fine weekend although I’ve actually drank my limit of alcohol for the forseeable future. It’s scary. For the first time in a long time I had no desire to drink yesterday or thus far today. I must be getting old. Tramped all over creation this weekend. Started Saturday on the ski slopes, ended the day in a succession of South Jersey biker bars. Sunday I headed up to Jim Thorpe with a pal to meet some other lads and do the St. Pat’s parade but we ended up parking on the other side of the river and up a hill and figured we were too late so instead of marching we walked the entire parade route and then watched the parade come down the hill.

I have to say, if you’re ever looking for a good town to party in for St. Pat’s, Jim Thorpe takes the cake. The entire town was out drinking (literally) in the streets. Keg parties on front porches and general mahem. Sweet.

Skipped NYC to come home instead. Took a little whiskey up to my pal’s grave for the holiday and hung about a little while in our resident “irish pub.” Couldn’t manage to stay awake long enough to hear any music so it was back home to watch “Michael Collins” and cheer on the President.

Good speech. I have to find a transcription today as I missed the second half due to a sudden vision of nuclear disaster. Freaky. Ah well, the stock market’s up, the war’s likely to be over by the end of the week and things are looking up all over. Here’s to American resolve and the power for good.
