Liberty for all!

If you read the article I offered Wednesday you would have noticed the comments of Hawra al-Zuad, an Iraqi exile living here in the United States. These comments were left presumably by her:

For the people that still think that we shouldn’t go out to war…..Have you ever heard of a country that cuts off a ear or tongue for saying something against the president or for nothing…What about a law that tatooes an X on your forehead if a person doesn’t go to the army.

I could go on and talk about the grinders near the Euphrates..The only thing left to say is the people of Iraq deserves to live their lives. Just like we do.

Amen. Amen. Iraq is the cradle of civilization. Surely it is incumbent on us to ensure she can hold her head high among the civilized nations of the Earth. “Liberty is not America’s gift to the world. Liberty is God’s gift to humanity.” Everyone deserves to live their lives in a manner of their choosing. That’s one of the most beautiful things about our United States: you can be whatever you resolve to be. We are the shining city on the hill. Despite our faults, despite our many errors we are still the last best hope of Earth. Is it too much to ask that we ensure that same promise of liberty to those around the globe that dream of living in freedom?

Amen Hawra. I hope you do get to go back for spring break and see an Iraq free, for the first time in its existence, to live in harmony with its neighbors and free to chose how best to make its own way in the world to the benefit of its people.
