First, a moment of silence as we’ve lost our first hero of the New Year. Joe Foss, Marine aviator and Ace during WWII died Wednesday. It’s a pity, in a time when we’re up against as big a threat as we faced during the last great war and in a time when the mass of the people haven’t got the stones to face our problems and attack them head on we’re also losing all the old fellows who sorted things out the last time we got in such trouble. A pity.
Just read about the latest Democrat to throw his hat in the ring for 2004. This fellow, Senator Edwards, wants “the campaign to focus on what’s good for regular people.” Gee, where have we heard that before?
I know, we conservative types harp over and over again on the injustice of Democrap accusations that somehow the GOP and the current administration are “run to a large extent by insiders and for insiders.” Naturally that’s complete and utter bullshit. Never mind the election of 2000, the people, this year, voted to put the GOP in power in both houses of Congress. One might think that meant the people (that sacred word) favored the policies of the GOP and didn’t think it was run “by insiders and for insiders” but rather “of the people, by the people, and for the people” to quote the original great Republican. It’s positively disgusting the way this charge keeps getting trotted out. How, precisely, does allowing you to keep more of your money, have more choice in where your kids go to school, where you go to the doctor, what you buy in the stores and what car you buy somehow miraculously become a bad thing? Sure, a few folks get wealthier and wealthier and they too get to keep more of their own hard-earned dough but you get wealthier too…maybe not at the same rate but nobody can deny we’re all making more dough and are probably better off overall than our parents were. Which is better? More money for you all to buy cars, houses, toys? Or having your money forcibly levied to provide over-priced medical care, food and housing for the “poor?” Gee, it might just be me but I remember a nation founded once upon a time over a tax revolt.
Oh well. We do need some northerners in the race too. I’m also sick of listening to half-assed southern accents in all the debates. You see what trouble we got into when an un-reconstructed moron with helmet-head got into the Majority Leader position. About damn time we had a good, old-fashioned, tight fisted, logical and “uncaring” Yankee in office. It’d stop this constant higgledy-piggledy right quick.
