Saw Road to Perdition last night. Pretty cool flick, slow at times but filled with enough really cool stuff and incredible artisanship that the slow bits were worth wading through. It reaffirmed my interest in being a hitman although, knowing myself, I’m not sure I could do it for long (too stressful) and as the movie thankfully affirmed…you just don’t walk away from that sort of gig.
On another note, Janis Ian, a real old school singer/songwriter has written a perceptive article on the “free music” phenomenon. I have to say, she’s dead on right as far as I’m concerned. I don’t think my CD purchases have declined since the advent of downloading and I know I’ve bought or plan to buy a great many CDs I would either not have bought unless I had heard some of the tunes or would not even have known about. Then again, a lot of the stuff I’m into is not big music so maybe I ain’t helping out the “industry” but the industry can go to hell. One question though, why is she buying Backstreet Boys CDs for her nephews? Yet another generation of silky smooth “sensitive” men await. I wonder if the decline in marriage isn’t due to the fact that men simply aren’t men anymore. A subject for another time perhaps.
