Back at last from New

Back at last from New Joisy — “You can get in for free but have to pay to get out.” I think that should be the state motto.

Lovely weekend, all things considered. I did remember to bring booze so that helped ease the rough edges of so many days in close proximity to my beloved family. We did cruise out to the shore one day and not only got to see the ocean but also stopped by the old dirigible base at Lakehurst and stood on the spot where the Hindenberg disaster occurred. For an event with the notoriety that disaster possesses it is woefully under-commemorated. The small plaque in the middle of an untended ex-runway was only erected in 1987 and one must therefore assume the site was essentially unmarked until that date. I feel bad for the poor folks who, dressed in their best duds for a trans-atlantic crossing, perished in the firey furnance in the middle of the ass-end of the planet. What a bummer. Still, neat to see.

And so we enter the “Big Christmas Countdown.” Probably my least favorite time of the year, particularly following so closely on the heels of my favorite time of the year. I suppose it’s non-stop shopping for the next 23-odd days. And eight days until I’m one year closer to death. Yikes and away!!!
