I am once again reminded what an amazing nation we have here. We are so great that people are willing to attempt to cross 65 miles of uninterrupted desert during the third year of a serious drought and die in the trying. Do you get that? People are so desperate to get into the United States they are willing to die in the attempt! One would imagine that would make us realize what we’ve got.
I have another screed on immigration but for now a Hillary alert is in order. Our dear Senator from New York is presently proposing we add a Department of Child Welfare to our soon to be formed Ministry for the Defense of the Fatherland so we can provide Federal monies to help children who are mentally damaged by the attacks of September 11 and future assaults. This is so bent I don’t know where to begin. Let’s not even mention, as the reporter did, that 2/3ds of the affected children have also seen other violent acts (killings, beatings, etc…this is New York after all) but what in the hell do Israeli children do? Where do the kids of Afghanistan go for their happy pills? Why in hell aren’t American kids as tough or tougher than the rest of the kids throughout the world that live with this sort of thing every day. I suspect that having nightmares about collapsing buildings aren’t slowing down the sales of insert-violent-videogame-of-the-year-here. Heaven forfend that parents might have to actually talk to their kids, counsel them and make them feel safe again. Nah, let’s just throw hard-earned taxpayer monies at these pansies and put ’em on Prozac at 10. Peachy.
